MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS/LITERACY 

Duration: 3 Hours of learning      Max no of learners: 16

Target Audience – Workplace  

This course has been developed to improve the literacy and understanding of mental health and mental illness and how it affects an individual’s working life. We will look at how to support someone who has a mental illness diagnosis (OR they may be undiagnosed but showing signs of mental illness) and the myths and stereotypes surrounding these.

This course is delivered using a range of methods and resources including:

Face to Face tutor participative facilitation (whether in the classroom or online), scenarios for group discussions, polls, question and answer time, videos and end of session assessment.

This course has been developed and mapped to current occupational standards, qualification frameworks and the following documents and resources:

  • The 2011 Gov.UK document – No Health without Mental Health (created by Dept of Health)
  • ISO 45003 – psychological health and safety in the workplace
  • WHO/ILO policy brief on mental health at work

Levels 3 to 4: the course is aimed at learners at levels 3 to 5

Learning Outcomes:

After attending this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Discuss UK mental health statistics
  2. Describe the mental health / ill health continuum
  3. How are mental disorders diagnosed
  4. Use language to reduce stigmatization around mental health
  5. Name the most common mental health problems in the workplace
  6. Recognise early warning signs of mental ill health at work
  7. What managers can do to support their staff with mental health issues
  8. Signposting an employee – what is available in your workplace?
